Child Safety

The Josh Kennedy Foundation values everyone and takes the safety and well-being of the young people we engage with very seriously. We have a zero-tolerance policy to child abuse and neglect in any form.

The Foundation is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Children by providing a safe and inclusive environment and by ensuring that everyone involved with or in the Foundation is educated and informed of their responsibilities to protect and look after Children.

All Children have the right to feel safe and protected from all forms of abuse, harm, and neglect. Children have the right to take part in sport in a safe, positive, and enjoyable environment.

The Josh Kennedy Foundation aims to create and maintain an inclusive, child-safe environment that is understood, endorsed, implemented, and adhered to by everyone involved.

This happens through:

  • A strong and robust Child Safety policy. Contact us for a copy.
  • A clear Volunteer Appointment policy with rigorous screening requirements. All staff and volunteers must have a WA Working with Children Check. Contact us for a copy of the policy.
  • Good program safety planning across all facets and activities of our programs.
  • Clear ChildSafe training for all staff and volunteers, using ChildSafe Australia training: ChildSafe Australia
  • Clear and known reporting processes for any child safe concerns, including reporting to external authorities.

The screening and appointment of volunteers is a vital part of ensuring our child safety. Volunteers must

  • Complete Online ChildSafe training. Please contact Kent Morgan (see below) to get a link and complete this training.
  • Have a valid WA Working with Children Check.
  • Complete an application form and provide two referees we can speak with about their suitability to volunteer with children and young people.
  • Sign a declaration regarding their suitability to work with children and to agreeing to abide by policies and procedures.

If you have any concerns regarding child safety issues on JKF activities or want more information, please contact Kent Morgan: kentm@jkfoundation.com.au or 0417 952 057.
